Help choosing a reliable Water Pump

1796 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Florida Wheeler
I unfortunately have a water pump that has worn seals and needs replacement. I want a reliable one that will last. Help me decide.

I see this cheaper one from 1A Auto that seems to be of a great build quality for the price. $54.95

Or I can go Mopar $205-208

Is spending almost 4x as much for the Mopar one going to be worth it. Anyone have experience with A1 Auto or any other manufacturers?

Buy once, cry once. Most would suggest Mopar for sure.

Just reflecting back over many years, many cars, and many water pump replacements, I never had a water pump I replaced fail and I always just bought locally from places like Advance. Just saying -

On another forum, Jerry Bransford recommended Gates if you couldn't get a Mopar.

I'm ordering a gates water pump now. Thank for the recommendation

Here's the link for any people looking for this part in the future.

Old one

New One from Gates after I prepped the gasket, It resolved my leak issue and has been holding up great thus far.

I bought the Gates one and the outlet tube wouldn't clear the valve cover. I put the outlet tube on the old water pump and it would clear just fine. After beating and bending the tube to make it fit, I was afraid it would leak. I sent it back and got pump and new tube from Autozone. Everything fit perfect. There were a bunch of great reviews about the gates water pump so maybe I just got a bad one. IDK

Just replaced mine with a Gates. No issues. I would definitely go with Gates for the price. Did the termostat at the same time since I was already that deep in.

I'm replacing my thermostat with gates as well, with the 190 degree factory spec one.
