ok so this is a long story, but ill try to shorten it. some dbag stole my jeep, decided to tear up some baseball fields with it, then rolled it and left it till a cop found it at noon the next day. so i have to go get it out of the impound.

what damage could have been caused by sitting on the drivers side for overnight? i believe ill have to change all the fluids before driving it right? what else could be wrong?

all help appreciated as usual, and hopefully i dont hunt this guy down and kill him for flipping my baby. i hadnt even flipped it myself yet. i cant believe i wasnt the one to break the roll cherry.....grrrrr!!!! :firedevil:

Do you know if the guy left it running after he flopped it? Oil change at the least, all fluids at the most. Pull the plugs and see if they have oil on them. we had one on its top for about 1 hr and it took at least that long to get it running, lots of oil in the cylinders etc. As I recall we removed the plugs and just did baby cranks to get the oil out, used some lite sprays of starting fluid into the intake to help it. It worked but keep in mind we where hours into the woods, so it was all we had. If I am sure we would have done it a bit different.

As 4Jeepn said, ensure you pull the plugs and crank the engine. This will blow any oil that might have seeped into the pistons out. Oil does not compress much, which, if in the pistons, will crack stuff. Then do a complete fluid change just to be safe. Fluids are cheap compared to the alternative.

Sorry to here your baby was jacked and rolled, but at least you got it back. Is insurance going to cover anything? I'd also say change out all the fluids and pull the plugs and crank it to get the crap outta the cylinders.

thanks for the replys guys. i still havent messed with it. just got the courage to go see her today. it was a rough moment. the insurance adjuster seemed to think its totaled. so hopefully it is and i can buy it back on salvage and rebuild. it is being taken to my preffered shop today, so ill try to get some pics when i get a chance.

also, can you guys elaborate about getting the oil out of the cylinders? i am not at all familiar with this, as i tend to try and avoid rolling over....hmmm who would have thought a jeep was meant to be on its wheels??? grrr

Make sure you try and work with the adjuster, Start with a REAL low offer... You will get to buy her back pretttty cheap.
I know a few things about the insurance business;)

I know from working in the engine shop at Roush- if you roll a car (or tip it), you want to drain all the fluids from the engine, pull the rocker covers, pull the plugs, and gently hand-crank the engine (socket on the crank bolt). You may even want to drop the oil pan too. Let it sit for a night or so to let everything drain down.
Add oil to the rockers on each side, re-install the oil pan and valve covers, re-fill all the fluids, then crank the engine GENTLY (a touch at a time) with the starter. If there is no extra resistance, re-install the plugs and try a normal start. If you hear any funny noises, you MAY be in for an engine teardown and inspection (lucky us, we would have to anyways after a race, so not as big of a deal).
Also, I take it you're fuel injected, BUT, if you WERE carb'ed, you'd want to tear down the carb as well and reset the floats and replace your gaskets as well- Mark W.

I flopped an older Jeep back when you should not have too much trouble getting it started. Check all the fluid levels and top off anything that is below spec. Double check for any contamination and change that fluid if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

Check your throttle body and air filter for oil and replace the filter and cleanout the TB if you notice significant oil build up. Don't forget to check the trans level and battery.

Now comes the big moment: If you did not notice a lot of oil in the TB, then you may have a decent shot at starting it without removing the plugs. Give a crank, listen for anything obvious in terms of noise. If she doesn't catch, remove the snorkel and give her a blast or two of some carb cleaner and re-start. If she won't start pull the plugs and clean them with some carb. cleaner and re-try. If she doesn't crank, the collision switch may need to be reset.
