Took my brand new jeep to a mud hole over the weekend and now I have a pretty substantial clicking coming from low on the passenger side of the engine. This morning it finally gave me a check engine light but it's a 2014 and there is nothing in anyone's diagnostics systems for it yet. Is anyone free this weekend to come take a listen? Beer is on me!! My tools are just about as limited as my engine knowledge but I do have wrench and socket sets. I'd just take it to the dealership but they are going to charge out the nose since it's not necessarily a factory defect as far as I know

Yes there's a little mud in the air filter. I'm not sure where the breather tubes are but the picture I posted is where I was stuck for about 5 minutes

If there's mud i.e. water and mud in your air filter... I would clean out your air filter or change it and clean out intake tube to the throttle body. If if water and mud made it past your filter you definitely need to change oil ASAP!! Follow your breather tubes from the differential to the end of the tube...did water get above that line? If yes then change diff fluid too! At very minimum change air filter, check intake for mud past filter and change oil ASAP!!!
If you suck water into your engine pull your spark plugs and cycle engine does anything come out?
FWIW: google hydro lock jeep or YouTube it... So you understand how serious water in engine can be! Good luck!

Well I took it to the dealership and they said it's got massive amounts of water in the engine and the only thing that can be done is replace the entire engine. Does that sound right?

WOW! Honestly I think if you had (massive) amounts of water in your engine you would've blown a rod almost immediately. Remember water doesn't compress at all and massive amounts of water in your cylinder head... Something is going to Give typically it's a rod. Personally I would get a second opinion regardless of how much you trust your dealership! They don't have a reputation of being called Stealership's for nothing. Oh and I wouldn't tell the 2nd what the Dealership said...see if they come to the same conclusion...on their own!

The wonderful thing about the stealerships is that in order to even get it back without them fixing it I will have to pay $100 to get it back because that's their diagnostics price.

You're a brave man to be doing that much in a brand new, unmodifed Jeep. Unfortunately, that's a very expensive way to learn about breather hoses and hydro-locking!

I don't mean to ruin any hopes you might have, but I doubt an adjuster would cover damages caused by what I'm seeing in that photo :(

Actually the adjuster said that the only way it's not covered is if was intentional damage. Thank heavens for full coverage. I would never intentionally damage my brand new jeep. That is actually a hole in what was mostly about 6 inches of water. I'm pretty sure someone got stuck in that spot before and dug it that deep trying to get out.

Needless to say... I'm not going in any more mud puddles for quite a while. I was pretty much just passing through and saw that puddle and decided to run back and forth in it once. Big mistake.

That's great! I'd be really scared that the adjuster would say that by intentionally driving into mud, any damage caused was intentional (you know how insurance companies like to screw people!)

Allstate hasn't tried to screw me over throughout the whole process which is awesome. They cut the check this morning. With a $500 deductible it was still a hard lesson to learn though.

They're fixing the one I have already. It only has 1700 miles on it. Altogether it was just over $7000 to rebuild. The takeaway for my experience is that I now believe if you're a jeeper going off road you NEED full coverage. You don't want this kind of repair to be on you.
Even though I own a jeep I don't really consider myself a jeeper because it seems like a name you earn through experience in actually having successful expeditions in a jeep lol. I'm still working on that part apparently

You should ask to have all the parts back from the repair. You could end up rebuilding yourself an extra engine lol.
