Hey guys, first post on the most awesome forum i have ever found. I got a 1997 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L auto. I realized that the gas mileage absolutely sucks. I love my jeep but hate the MPG. i was thinking about doing a diesel conversion down the line. Does anyone know anything about doing this? I thought the extra torque would be cool, and i heard that most diesels do get better gas mileage and last longer than a gas motor. what else, other than the motor would have to be changed? What size motor should i go with? turbo, or nonturbo?

also, does anyone know anything about biodiesel? sounds like it would be cool, but idk anything about it. any difference in the mpg on bio? how about horsepower or torque?

thanks for helping out a big jeep fan.

I have been looking into this as well. In the build section a guy did it and has s video of it running. All I know is that its expensive. You need to make a few major changes besides the motor to handle the torque too.

It can be expensive and would need some good fab skills to help save on cost. I know this past summer I received a quote from a place that's known to do them, but it was like $12k and they have the Jeep for about a month or two. They also guarenteed great MPG, I believe about 24-26 is what I thought he said it could be capable of.

Your best bet is check Pirate4x4.com forum in the TJ hardcore thread.
or this place too, http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/index.php
