How to secure valuables in trunk of Wrangler JK

Hi All,

I’m looking for a solution to secure valuables in the back trunk of my JK. I have a Tuffy security enclosure, which definitely does what it’s intended to do. My issue is that with access to the back tailgate, everything is un-secured!

Potentially a thief (while the vehicle is topless) can activate the door locks which unlocks the tailgate and gain access to the contents of my trunk.

1-Is there a program code that isolates the tailgate lock from the door locks?

2-Does anyone know of a locking handle to replace the handle on the Smittybult tire carrier?
(Ideally if they can not open the tire carrier then they can not get into the trunk.)

3-Any other solution other than using a bicycle cable lock to lock the tire carrier to the bracket on the bumper?

I don't have power but I thought if you lock it with the remote. Unlocking with a door button will not unlock the tailgate. Try that. The other solution is always take your doors with you, problem solved.

When you lock the doors and gate with the remote it disables the locks on the doors after 30 seconds.

So you can be topless and they can't access the trunk.

I think it is 17 seconds, but yeah, the point still stands.

Use your key fob to lock the vehicle and you are fine.
