This may be a stupid question, is there way to tell what height lift I have?

I bought a used 95 YJ, the previous owner said it was a 3" lift.

I have 15" X 31 tires.

The shocks look beat and I want to replace. Does the lift matter for the shocks?

Thanks for your help.

Lifts are usually 2.5" or 4". Measure the length of your shocks currently. You want this to be the midpoint of your new shocks.

When you look at a new shock, there should be an extended length and compressed length. Average these two numbers together and you have your midpoint. This midpoint should be close to your current shock measurement you took.

You'll find that you have to mix and match shock lengths. My rear shocks are 2.5" lift and are a bit short, I had to lower the shock mount. My fronts are 4" lift and I welded the shock mount as high as I feel comfortable.
