Had to order some 'transponder' keys for duplicates...at $18 didn't want to spend $107 for the 3 key alarm sentry version, nor the laughable $250++ stealership option.

Got keys in a couple days, cut one, would not function properly as ignition would shut off in 2 seconds.

Even following owner manual exactly the key would not program.

Contacted iKeyless, discovered they sent wrong data sheet. They emailed proper sheet, I followed directions, and cheapo transponder key now works!!!

IF sentry alarm is active, after unlocking door and opening, the alarm GOES OFF. Irritating, but rapid insertion into ignition stops it.

Oddly enough, discovered factory 3-key will also activate alarm by not using deactivate button but unlocking then opening door. Soothed me somewhat and demonstrated both the robustness as well as simplicity of sentry system design.

So I had my other transponder keys cut and programed myself with little effort.

Now intend to leave 3 key originals locked in safe and use only the transponder dups.

Getting hold of iKey for tech support the 2nd time was very difficult 'due to high volume'.

Have to give them a 'thumbs up' as they did supply what I was after for a reasonable price.

08 3 button security alarm system; they have those blanks for $107;

the $18 no-button transponder version works for the locks and the ignition if you program it yourself

Be prepared to deal with the alarm going off if you arm the system. It turns off inserting the transponder key in the ignition. Perhaps other ways too.

Thanks for the info!

I'm waiting for the 2011 transponder key. They are only up to 2010 right now. It's supposed to be available very soon.

I was thinking of changing my key. My plan is to Velcro the old key inside the area near the ignition and use the new one.

Anyone know if that would work?

I had a non-transponder copy made of my 08. I tried all sorts of tricks to get it to work. The best I came up with, other than unlocking the door (setting off the security alarm if armed) was to have the motor run about 2 seconds before it would die.

If you find some magic method, be sure to let us know.

Or consider the $18 to iKeyelss for a transponder unit you can program yourself IF you have two master keys.

There's some form of electronic trickery I don't fully understand, that has gone in to make the security system what it is.

I had never considered the implications of 'security key' actually including 'the security of added income stream' for the stealership.

Then again, we don't have to spend $$$$ for after market alarm systems any longer.

Well, I don't have electric locks and I have an aftermarket alarm so... I think if I leave my transponder key taped intomthe steering column I can use any key I want.

Of course this bypasses the security of using a transponder key.
