I live in Idaho and am getting a '18 WRANGLER UNLIMITED SPORT 4X4 and now i'm a bit worried after reading all the issues people have had with an 2018 model.

I pick her up in about 3 days, and BEFORE I spend the coin, what should I look at specifically or what should I do to make sure I don't get a lemon!

I am not sure if I love California build code stuff. That state is beautiful, but some potential add-on stuff could be a pita to deal with...ON DIESEL. I don't know much about a car with gas engine...

Our plan is light off-roading and tow behind my truck camper. I plan to make a ton of posts about how we use the JL down the road...But first I want to make sure what to look for.

I DO know a recall was done.. #Y95 2018 JL STICTION - STEERING ASSIST ---- That's the only thing done and none are showing pending.

Here is the 2018 build sheet: I figure you guys might need to know about what's on her vs me answering 10k questions about much I don't know...

Anything you all can suggest would be greatly appreciated!

Tom

Many on here buy new or new to them Jeeps, I personally wouldn't hit a dog in ass with one for fear of it falling apart while watching the dog run away laughing the whole way...but that's me, I don't think anyone can predict what a used vehicle will do, especially not really knowing how the previous owner drove it, or maintained it. It might go 200,000 miles trouble free, or 1 block and kablooie lol. 2013 is my limit for a new Jeep, once Fiat and company got involved...cheap parts-overpriced

Any used vehicle is a crap shoot. You never know if the other person maintained it perfectly or never changed the oil once. The best you can do is look it over and check for any obviously things.

Welcome to the Forum! The 2018 JL, is one of the better year Wranglers. It has the awesome 8 speed Auto, along with the updated PUG 3.6 engine, without the e-torque crap add on. If you plan on keeping it long term, then there are extended MOPAR warranty policies available..your call..

My Grandson has a 2018 JLR, and we are very happy with it.

^^^ The above is a WF Vendor, that offers favorable pricing, for these policies.

Round two and this one from Carmax (us vehicle) lasted 35 min after I bought it. Went on the freeway and stopped for a burger to find coolant pouring out of charged overflow reservoir. You guessed it, blown head gasket or crack in the block.
Carmax taking it back this am and all will be right with them. Really good company to deal with. Honestly

But now the search begins all over again.

Well, wife and I are beginning to wonder if ordering a new one might end better. We keep looking for under 30K miles , but it seems if there is low miles, they are traded like 3x. That has taught us to be extremely careful. CarFax has been invaluable.

We are prob going to do a Peterson deal with 6% off MSRP.
Make sure to the read the fine print.

As @Chugiakguy and I found out, the prices they quote normally include financing 90% of the vehicle’s value through their financial institution of choice, for the first six of so many payments.

You can ask for a cash quote as well. Chances are it won’t look nearly as sweet.

Does financing with them lock you into not paying it off early? Only asking because I’ve financed through places before to get an available ‘credit’ and have been asked by the dealer to not pay it off, but it’s never been locked… just paid it off or refinanced with my preferred lender before the first monthly payment was due.

Dbart, if I remember Peterson's deal correctly (and maybe Aldo can verify this), you are in fact locked into paying the first six monthly payments with them --- by which point you would have paid most of the interest of the loan, while having paid off almost none of the principle. In my case, it would have effectly added about $3000 to the purchase price. And if you ask for a cash price, with no financing, they will simply add that six month's worth of interest to your quote for the cash price, so there is essentially no avoiding paying most of the full interest on the loan, even if you finance it with them and then pay off the rest of the loan at the end of six months.

DONE!!!

We Skipped Peterson‘s in Boise and bought in Mountain Home and it’s really funny….. Peterson’s price AFTER THEIR AFFILIATE REBATES, was the same exact price as Mountain Homes price and the exact same price as MSRP. So, I honestly think Peterson’s was selling OVER MSRP. Guys, the numbers don’t lie. I feel like there was something fishy. I even verified the prices online and the only one with higher pricing, was PETERSON‘s.

I am blown away at how friendly and non-pressuring Mountain Home was.

RJay there is the man!

Peterson's quote last fall was very good...provided you were willing to finance 90% of the value of the vehicle through them. If you didn't, then there's nothing to see there.
