So here is what I did (picture is worth xxxx words...)

I did some trimming last week.. Made speaker adapters.

Here's some more. I just finished it this morning. Took me 3 hours approximately.. Lots of sun, sweat and pain here and there. But it's well worth it. NEw speakers (even smaller) are a huge improvement over the stock ones. Sound is crispier and razor sharp.

So here it goes..

Oh and btw.. I HATE TORX HEAD!

New vs. Stock

Stock connector. I used it on new speakers

New grill fabric. The old one remains on the old speakers. Thought of ditching it but then again it provides some protection weatherwise..

This is how it looks without. I didn't like it.. So the fabric is applied. Sound is a bit less crisp than without but hey.. It's a jeep..

my question is why not use 6x9's again instead of the small speakers

I had them and didn't want to spend more money until I see if it's worth it.
Well, it's worth it. But then again -- it won't cross my mind to repeat this procedure again. Not until the next summer at least..

I too wanna know about the grill fabric. Mine doesn't have any and the speakers get some mud on them when the top and doors are off

no grill fabric here, like that idea.

FWIW, you CAN change the speakers without removing the dash, it's not exactly easy. but it is possible. i've done it
