Anyone done this? What are essential tools and time to complete it? Is it a total pita or just time consuming?

It's not hard at all. I haven't put a new on on my Jeep but I took the factory one off a loooong time ago. Pick whichever 2" hitch you want for your TJ and it'll come with the instructions to do the job.

Make sure you have an assortment of wrenches or socket set too.

A Curt hitch was more than a 10 min job and I did require assistance to lift into place.

Go to etrailer.com they might even have an instructive video install.

Just installed my curt I picked up off CL two days ago by myself. All you need is a bucket and some spare wood to hold it in place while you bolt it down. Took 15 minutes and I'm not mechanically inclined. Don't forget to torque it to spec btw.

just did the curt hitch yesterday piece of cake use the floor jack to hold it up only two bolts to remove, and 4 to put back. Got the hutch from JC Whitney $115 delivered!
