ok so i recently purchased a internatioal 345 v8 and transmission for $200, any how seeing how my 95 yj (with the 2.5l) needs a new tranny i figured i would go all out. So i was wondering if anyone else has done this and if anyone could give me a few pointer. I really need to know if i can use the stock transfer case and axles because im not sure if they will hold up. Also i need to figure out engine mounts and what not, i am very mechanically inclined, acutally im am currently in college for diesel mechanics, any how i would appericate any advice and insite you guys may have.

The transfer case should hold up ok. but why would you want to use such a boat anchor for a motor? why not just use a 351M ford motor? i had one and it was a boat anchor.
not knockin you just askin.

I'm sure that people have done the swap but it is not that common.

My recommendation would be a 4.0 upgrade. Much less headache and really not much more money by the time you factor in everything you would need to swap.

If you are hard set on a v8 a AMC 304/360 would be a good candidate too.

As far as axles I assume you have a dana 30 front and dana 35 rear. The rear is the weak point and with larger tires and a v8 will equal trouble if you like the skinny pedal.

Well im using it because i got a great deal on it, plus torque and hp are really close to the 350, and i figured it worked good in the scout so wht not.

Worked great is subjective. Yes they're indestructible. I grew up in a scout family and I have much love for them.

I'm curious to see what happens with this even though it's not something I'd recommend. It also fuels the jeeps aren't real off road vehicles argument and I don't like that.

Where are you going to put the larger gas tank?

Ill be the first to say it, jeeps are the best off road vechicle, but im only using the scout engine becasue i got a good deal on it from my old vocational school, to be honest it came out of a county truck not a scout, but anyhow to answer your question im not im going to put in a large fuel tank right now, im going to engineer as i go.
