Ok, so I got a new headunit, Alpine 149BT. My old headunit charges my phone fine. It will not effectively charge an iPhone 6 or 5S. We are talking maybe 1% every 5 minutes. I have gotten a replacement headunit from Alpine. Same issue. Tried many different cables. I also sacrificed an old cable, to test with a multimeter. Same readings off the headunit or a wall plug.

The ONLY thing I can think of, since my old unit was run off the same wire config, is that I have a new compressor and one of the switch wires vampires off the 12v switched (ACC) coming off the jeep.

This seems rudimentary, but what wires coming from the jeep, should be feeding my headunit red and yellow? Shouldn't it be like a pink and a red?

Also, what are the stock wire colors for cig socket?

97 Sport, btw

I assume your new head unit is a different model than your old one? The USB port on the HU doesn't have the same power output a USB charger does. They are typically designed for data transfer only. Your better off to get a cigarette lighter USB charger with an output of at least 1.0Amps to charge your iphone. That will match the output of the little AC cube that comes with your iphone.

Nevermind, I see your deck is supposed to have some charging power at the port. Looks like a nice head unit btw. One would think as long as the deck has power and is operating correctly, the port should have full power too.

It is a beast of a headunit.

All modern headunits are supposed to hit the magic 1.0amps. Many generic cords can prevent this. Anyway, I did some side by side tests today. I thought maybe I had the switched 12v and constant 12v reversed. They weren't. The Kenwood charged like a champ: about 1% per minute. The alpine is maybe 2% in 10 minutes.

The alpine does sound WAY better at flat crossover level. Alpine just has better signal processing. Kenwood bass is way "poppier".

I'd do a charger and Bluetooth, but that just works the hell out of the phone battery and sound quality is Pandora-like, at best. I hate to be a slave to my iPhone but alpine has zero ideas. No firmware update in site. They swear up and down that any iPhone beyond 4s should be fine. According to Internet, I must be the only one having the issue. Sad panda.
