Ok...don't want to stir the fire here...but got a question...

I have a 2004 TJ with a 4 inch lift and run 33x12.5 and love having fun in it, but started thinking the other day... I see so many little bumper stickers that state ITs A JEEP THING. H2 recovery Vehicle, along with many others....I have driven many of 4x4 vehicles and have enjoyed most of them....Took the Hummer in the military where I thought no vehicle could go and had a blast doing it. Taken my F250FX4 off road and had fun doing it....I guess what I want to hear is your story in why the jeep is the vehicle of choice for your fun and off roading...Is it because of the mods that can be done to them, the way they look or the way they drive..... I know for a fact that my F250 is more comfortable to drive than the jeep but the jeep keeps calling my name whenever it is time to go to the fields...but at the end of day the body is sore from the bouncing and clutching all day long.....but it keeps calling me....

So give me your story as to why the Jeep stands above the rest.

LONG POST WARNING
I love Jeeps, dont get me wrong.
That being said...there are things that they just dont do well. You highlighted their rough and sometimes uncomfortable ride. They are small, and dont have the ability to tow big loads. They are kinda stuffy when the tops on.

but.....they can go in alot tighter spots than the F-250 and pretty much everything else you'd take on a trail (without sacrificing sheet metal). The exception would be for a few sami's that have been freed from their dull street lives.

I also love Hummers, not H2's or H3's, I mean HUMMERS and HMMWV's. Pre-GM hardware. Honestly, I'd drive the wheels off one if they weren't so dang expensive. A mid 90's rig is still high 20's to 30's.
I've spent many hours wheeling with and in civi Hummers. Even they have drawbacks, though. They are crazy loud, and feel underpowered on the road, they have jeep sized seats at each corner of the cab and they have lots of little quirks.

One of the best, if not the best part of a Jeep is the price point. You can get in a nice used TJ and build it for under $10k. I dont know of any other 1997+ vehicles that you can do this with.
Also, Jeep parts are EVERYWHERE. Try to fine a geared hub seal for a Hummer in the boondocks on a sunday afternoon. Good luck.

I own a Jeep (my 3rd now) and I still dont know what that "jeep thing" is. I like it for what it is. Its alot of fun.

I'm only 24, I'm not old. I can see that it doesnt have the best ride. I can see that its relatively loud. I can see that its small.
If you can't acknowledge that the TJ is NOT perfect, something is wrong with you.

I'm not saying that I don't like it. I'm NOT saying its not a cool vehicle, or that hot girls aren't looking at you.

I'm just stating that it, like EVERYTHING else on the road, has faults.

I had an F150 SCrew for a couple of years for road trips and 4 wheeling that was very comfortable to drive in and had the triton v8. It was great until I started wheelin more and more aggresively that I found it's short comings (approach angles, size, etc). So a year and a half ago we bought the jeep for my wife who always wanted one, so we got the unlimited with the lift. After gas prices shot up, and the pain of getting in and out of the jeep, we decided to trade in the f150 for an '05 Grand Cherokee because my wife was going to babysit my nephew during the week. So by default I lucked out and got a rig that more suitable for offroading than my f150 as I got the jeep. I wanted the jeep just to wheel it, and yeah it's noisy, and not the smoothest of rides as a dd but for wheelin' I wouldn't have anything else. Though I wouldn't mind an f510 or an f250 as a tow rig

Another long post

My story on jeeps is simple. I've seen them do things that amaze me. My family had a Grand wagoneer in the Late 70's. I was little but I remember this my mother forgot the take it out of 4 wheel. Was chasing a Bus my brother was on because he forgot his mouthguard for football. She had that thing between 80 and 90 mph for about 1 hour (Montana citys are very far apart). The transmission and transfer case were so hot that when we drove into the gas station they were smoking badly, That jeep ran for 100k more miles after that with no problems at all.

My second sight was my 73 Cherokee in High School. I was coming around a corner with about a 8 foot snow drift, looking for oncoming traffic before I merged when low and behold A truck was stopped in the middle of the road hit it at 40moh drove the tailgate into the bed and ended up with my front tires in the bed also. Got out and saw everyone was alright then I got back in shifted into 4 wheel and backed off the truck. After all the caos I drove home welded a bumper mount back on the jeep that and a dented grill were all the damage there was.

My numerous jeeps in the past not just the ones i mentioned have always been able to get out of some serious offroad situations at least when the wheels were still on the ground, and not in the air, lol.

My TJ is a new project and is coming along nicely I got away from jeeps for a bit to rebuild a harley but am back. Im sure this one will impress me just like all the others.

P.S. I was in the military and the civillian hummers are nothing compared to the ones in the military. I will always stick with jeep. It was the origional and is still the best in my opinion.

And once they get in they loose their dam minds. When I had my YJ there wern't to many black dudes with jeeps around. I was something like a pimp..lol.....Hey the bouncy ride isnt bad it all especially when your passender is a D cup or better.

Very simply put, a Jeep can ease over anything that would tear the crap out of any other vehicle, and keep on going, while you are doing major repairs to your F-150, chevy, dodge,......etc......I will be going on to the next obstacle.

haha! aside from the bouncing... :D

a jeep is a vehicle all it's own. when you see a jeep, you know it's a jeep and jeep owners have a lot of pride about their vehicles, they wave at each other and have respect for other jeeps they see on the road. they're relatively cheap, specially when being compared to hummers and full sized ford trucks. in addition, they're are catalogues hundreds of pages thick full of crap you can get to make your jeep your jeep! i'm more a VW enthusiasts than a jeep enthusiast and both have flaws. but in both cases, the pro's far outweight the cons and they have character all there own.

double negatives

this in the english langauge is a double negative which means they cancel each other out so you are saying they are perfect!!! but like , ,said mine has met all my expextation with no faults. I like it because there is nothing like it on the road. if you look at today market everytime a maker comes out with something all the other co. are making the same thing with there emblem. hints (chevy s10 blazer, GMC jimmy, and the bravero(cant remember maker)) it is so close with these three you can interchange even body parts. but i do not see anything that even resembels a Jeep wrangler at least. and dont say something like the geo side kick its not the same. also i have seen some pretty bad @$$ jeeps do some pretty wicked things. and before i got my jeep I had a 96 ford bronco that thing kick almost as much butt as my jeep does because of the short wheel base and huge engine (5.8L). but any way i think with to days market the only thing you can go by is which company emblem you like better because it boils down to the same car, unless you want out of the loop completly is when you get a jeep. but as for the passenger part, my passenger only has 36A, but i love her any ways, and she really enjoys riding in the jeep as well because it is unique. so get in you jeep and give the one finger wave (which ever you choose :flipoff: ) and know that only jeep people can appericate the same thing.

its better on gas and quieter than what i had before (89 bronco 351w...) they look cool, and you can mod them out the wazoo... not to mention ease of offroading.. not as wide as my bronco, (though i could fit said bronco anywhere the jeep will)

and its a stick... the bronco didnt have that...

You are correct on the double negative thing, but if you cancel can't and not in my post, then it would read like this...

If you acknowledge that the TJ is perfect, something is wrong with you.
Now that we're past that. ;)

I'm with you on the Jeep Wrangler not being one of the "cookie-cutter" vehicles that everyone else is selling.

(side note: All the vehicles you listed are the same because GM owns them. The Chevy Blazer, GMC Jimmy, and Oldsmobile Bravada actually did share sheetmetal and parts. This is called badge engineering. Every major automaker in the world is guilty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badge_engineering You wont find the Wrangler on the list though.)

I've always gone for the niche stuff, whether it is a Wrangler, Hummer, Triumph Daytona, Audi S4, etc.
I can't stand to just fall in and be one of the masses. I hate it.
