So I was driving to Christmas dinner when the jeep loses all power and won't go over 45 with out bucking like it's running out of gas. I can put the clutch in and the engine works fine through the rpm range just when it's in gear.
Checked the engine codes and I got a 12, 31, 21 and of course 55
the 21 is a bad o2 sensor that been that way for a while.
Anybody have any ideas as to where to start?
Worried it's the transmission or clutch. I heard they don't do well with water and I got stuck in a deep puddle about 3-4 weeks ago
Thank and Merry Christmas

oh it's a 97 4.0 5spd

Probably got some moisture. I'd start drying out plug wires, distributor, etc.

I had a code 21 and replaced the upstream o2 sensor. All is well now.

I also had the hesitation and got rid of it by replacing the distributor cap, plugs and plug wires.

Good Luck.

Consider starting with all of the error codes listed.
12 is just the battery
21 I already explained and am not worried about
31 EVAP Purge Solenoid or EVAP Purge Flow Monitor Failure

31 would be the one I am not sure on. I listed the codes for that reason although I was on my phone at the time so a bit limited on what I could really do, sorry.

I am long over due for the cap and rotor and will do that tomorrow anyway but I would think that would cause a hesitation even out of gear when just reving the engine? This only seems to happen when I am in gear
