Hey All...

My 2007 Wrangler X literally sprays fuel back out when I'm gassing up. It only does this when the tank is fuel. And when I say full I mean it is FULL! It pumps completely normal and then -- whammo-- the nozzle clicks off and gas simultaneously shoots back at me without warning. Usually it's just a little bit but sometimes it's a lot. I have to rinse and dry the entire back quarter panel of my Jeep.

Because of the angle of my tank most gas pumps turn themselves off unless I hold the nozzle up continuously. What I've started doing is holding the pump nozzle in tightly with both hands to give it a really tight seal; that usually minimizes the amount of spray. Today that created some sort of massive reverse vacuum because as soon as the pump clicked off, gas -- and I mean a lot of gas -- shot sprayed out. It covered me and my ride this time.

Has anyone else ever encountered this?

Thanks...

This is funny because I was filling up before wheeling in NJ (they pump the gas) and the woman told me I have a polite Jeep. I looked at her confused, and she told me that unlike many Jeeps, mine didn't spit gas at her. I thought she was kinda nuts until I read this thread!

Thanks I guess im gonna check into this...Mine is 2008 Sahara and it does it all the time.

I just had the tank replaced for the same issue in my wife's 08 Liberty. It is a known well documented issue, and Jeep is offering a lifetime warranty for the problem.

Skip the dealership, go to Jeep.com and chat with them, they'll give you the name of the campaign and all the info. Then go to the dealer. I had all the info, called the dealership and asked if my problem was warrantied, and they told me know. Then I told them the campaign number and suddenly it was warrantied and would cost me nothing. LOL They tried.

In all fairness they did do a good job!

I think it's just a TSB. Not a recall. But it extends the factory warranty for that item.

If you have an aftermarket skip plate on the gas tank remove it and put it back to the way it came. There is no charge! Good luck, let us know how you make out.

My 2011 does this pretty regularly. Will have to see if I can talk to someone at Jeep about getting that rectified, as my current solution is that I typically just stop about 1 gallon from full whenever I gas up.

That's what I was doing for a long time. Then one day it started tripping the pump and spitting gas a few seconds after I started pumping it. That put me over the top.

My '06 TJ did the same thing. I would try to wash it off when I can and try slowing the pump down when getting near full. It can be really bad for your paint overtime. My TJ started rusting in that same area.
