I have a 2000 Jeep Tj with the Dana 30 and Dana 35 back with 3.07 gears. I’ve been running 35s for the longest time and want to regear. I don’t know what to regear to. A lot of people have told me to go 4.88. It’s my daily but also an off-roader. Nothing crazy just wheeling over California deserts. Someone help me decide what to regear too. Also it’s the I6 engine with 5 speed.

I'd go with 5.13's. either option is a solid one and far superior to the 3.07's, but 5.13's will give you a bit more pep and put less stress on the engine resulting in a small amount of additional mpg. note: the I6 optimal power band for performance and mpg is between 2400-2800 rpm

NV 3550 with 35's at 70 mph
4.88 = 2558 rpm
5.13 = 2689 rpm

while you're in there, it would be a good time to upgrade your D35 to a S35 as you are pushing your luck with 35" tires on that axle.

There's a bunch of forum threads about this. Here's the general chart that's out there:

4465125

I just regeared to 4.56 and love it with my 33s (I6 with 5 speed also). 4.88 sounds right on par for 35s.

a word to the wise with general charts, they are general.

the chart posted above does not look like a TJ transmission with an O/D gear.
