hello all. i have a 99 4.0 auto that won't stay running. the problem just started this morning. the jeep turns right over, but within a second or two just dies. tried to give it a little gas, tried to put it in gear, nothing. it just dies. any suggestions on where to start. thanks.

Sounds like a fuel pump personally. Check how much pressure is on the fuel rail. The lil needle valve on the rail should spew gas on you when you put the pin(like a valve stem on your tires). Does it continuously start then die or only fire occassionally? Can ya take the air hose off the intake and pour gas init to keep it running? Hard to trouble shoot without actually being there. But just some suggestions on where to start.

just like to say thanks for the help, but i realized today that i'm a idiot. after the tow truck reached my house to tow my vehicle to the shop, he noticed that i had key i made in the ignition, and asked me if i had the key programmed. i had no idea what he was talking about. so after placing my original key in the ignition, the vehicle started right up and stayed running. i have never heard of this before. i got the jeep because i thought it was just a basic vehicle with nothing fancy, live and learn i guess. so my next question is how do i get my spare key programmed.

you can go to the dealer to get the spare key programmed. you will have to pay but i think the price will vary at each dealership. just bring some donuts to them :D

All those bells and whistles. You would love the simplicity of the YJ! A key is a key and doesn't need to be programmed!
And did we mention square headlights........
