Does anyone know what function the plastic motor cover achieves on the JK's? My 2012 had it and so does my 2017. They snap off easy enough for oil changes and stuff but does it hold heat near the motor that would be better off escaping? OR does it "funnel" fan air nearer to the motor and help with heat? OR is it to help with noise? Has anyone left it off and had some experience? I like my 2017 and it runs well but I hate to think it is just there to make it look pretty when you lift the hood! curious thanks, mark

its primarily to help the engine warm up better and to hide the hideous plastic intake

I think it does a number of things. It does hold heat near the motor which may help with warm up and fuel efficiency. It seems to do some noise dampening too. My agency motor pool has a few Dodge Durangos with the Pentatstar motor and they have exactly the same cover, just with a Dodge logo.
