so i was rear ended by a moving truck and the only damage seems to be on the tailgate. i got an estimate of $2350 and was wondering if i should have it fixed or do it myself and upgrade some things.

The estimate had the bumper cover being replaced.. But there's just one little scratch on it, and that's about it. Nothing else besides the tailgate was damaged

If you can get the tailgate and have it painted you can probably get the teraflex hinge and install it yourself instead of paying for labor. Or possibly install a new rear bumper and carrier

Look at the tire carrier carefully. It could have cracks in it and, if so, should definitely be replaced. You should be able to find them cheap from someone who has upgraded; OEM is some ridiculous price like $500

For less than $2300 you could buy a new tailgate, ditch the stock bumper, and buy and aftermarket bumper and tire carrier.
