Hiya, I'm new to this board and have a couple questions. I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler and just put in a 2" Rough Country lift. This has the longer shocks and the coil spacers. I'm happy with the height of the Jeep now but I'm not happy that the ride is so harsh now. I didn't expect this since I'm still using the same coils. Apparently the new shocks are stiffer but it sure is firmer. Anyone else have this happen? Do you think I should look for new shocks and hopefully they will be plusher that the ones that come with the Rough Country Lift.

Also, I want to go to new rims and tires. Currently I have 8" American Racing with the wrong backspacing (3") This makes the tires stick out beyond the flares which isn't good. I'm looking at 31 x 10.50's and new rims with a 5" backspacing. Will they no longer stick out? I'm also torn between the Cooper ATR's and the BF Goodrich TA's. Any thoughts on this?

First off welcome to the forum!

Second - Welcome the the world of Rough Country shocks. I have the Rough Country 4" lift myself. I just swapped out the shocks for OME LT's. Night and day difference. IMO - ditch the shocks and get some better quality shocks.

Thanks, I suspected that might be the cure. Now I need to find out what would be the right shock since it needs to be longer now.

I'm not sure which shock will be best for the 2" BB. I think OME makes one that might work for you. Hopefully someone will chime in here with a part number for you.

N66 and N67 are the regular travel OME shocks. They work great with a 2" budget boost. I ran that setup for quite awhile and loved the ride!

With 5" BS you should get back inside the flares. I know my 03 came with rims that were 5" BS and they were inside the flare. But when moving up in tire size (at time goal of 33's) I went with a 16"x305 (roughly 12.5 inch wide) rather then a 16"x285 (roughly 10.5 inch wide) and had rub problems in the front at full lock one way or the other. The fix for me was to install three flat washers behind each of the steering stops. Later I went to a 15" rim and 33x12.5's on a roackcrawler 3.75" BS. With that set up I had ZERO rub and plenty of play. I went ahead and upgraded and am now on 37x12.5x15. So far I have no problems except on full stuff I get a little rub in the rear. FWIW I started at the same point you are at with the BBL, I also added a Nth TT, Tranny Skid and OPSkid, with a set of used 305x70r16's. This was the set up I used on my first trip through the Rubicon trail and it worked very nicely. Here is a pic of my flex on that run.

IMHO other then the rear loading on the early pics there is no difference in ride height between 04 and 05. One other note related to 04 is that I did replace my stock LCA's and rear UCA's with a set of Nth stock lower replacements (2" x .250 square tubing vs. waffled 1/8" stockers) and adjustable rear uppers as I went with a CV shaft righ away.
