That's a good question.

I just learned from a service writer at my local dealer that they don't program keys. They farm it out to a local locksmith shop. So, it would seem a properly equipped locksmith could help you out.

I lost my key so I went to the dealer and got another one - while I was talking to him he told me the automobile sound and security shop next door was over there all the time buying Jeep keys. I asked what for and he told me they use them for remote start systems, they remove the panel under the steering column and attach they key there so the Jeep senses the chip in it. So by doing that you can go to the local hardware store and have a generic key made and it will work fine to start the Jeep.
