What gears would you put in?

I have a '92 with a 4 cyl. (150 cid. :punk:), a AX-5 manual trans, and a NP231.
I want to regear my diff's.
4.10's are in there now and I'm not happy.
I have 31"s now but want to go with 33"s later.
What would you put in 'em?

i would think 4.10s would do the job....but i just had to choose i would only go to 4.56

theres a chart in the other thread called like "can my jeep pull 31's" or something....

your jeep has 4.10's now, changing to 4.56 will barely be noticeable. 4.88 is the largest you can put in there, if you're gonna spend the time and money, do 4.88.

but, before i'd spend a dime on the d35 rear axle, that money would be better spent on an upgrade. 8.8 and dana 44 are good options.

I can't afford a Dana 44 and gearing too.:( I will eventually get one.
Stupid question, but can the gears from a D35 be swapped into a D44? Probably not but it would be nice.

How your project coming along Doc?

no, the gears are not interchangeable. honestly, personally i'd rather see that money spent on an 8.8, and you can buy it w/ 4.10 gears to match the front. an 8.8 w/ 4.10 gears and 33's is better than a d35 w/ 4.88 gears and 33's. then regear both axles later when you get more money. just me though.

the build is coming along, thanks for asking. the goal is to have a roller by the end of the year, gotta build the front axle and buy springs still
