I would say 2.5 would work for you, but what size tires do you plan to run?

my main concern is how hard the lift will be to putt on i reed some people saying you might have to mod here and there and other times it sounds not that hard at all. iv never had a project of this magnitude before and i don't want to put 2,000$ or so into something and get it wrong

I was in the same boat and rounded up someone who could and did know how. I would have been standing there with a driveway full of parts going WTH do I do now. I could do it now after helping though. The right Tools are a big +.

If your just planning to keep the stock size tires(235's??) Then I would say maybe just add some 1" lift shackles. This will help get the Jeep up a bit but still be close to stock ride. Cost will be cheaper than a lift kit, and for the time being you can run the stock shocks. Best thing to do for off road driving is disconnect the front sway bar. This will let the front axle flex more.
