So I want to run backup lights on my TJ. But the thing is I don't want to just splice them into the stock reverse lights. I want them on probably the tail lights with a switch inside the switch panel by the stick shift. So my question is can I splice into the taillights and run a switch without running it through a relay or should I just buy a relay with the wire and switch? I'm thinking about those round black Napa Auto Parts lights that are only like ten bucks a piece.

Not using a relay is less safe, it's not worth messing around because if you ever caused a fire, well, that would be bad. I just recently installed KC backup lights on a GMC plow truck, not hard at all but if you want them on a switch, the switch is sold separately: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002GXOBY/ref=oh_o04_s01_i01_details
Thanks that's what I needed to know. I'll probably just get a jeep switch from eBay. But I can buy just the relay right?
