I have found a 2000 TJ with 2.4 L 5 speed for sale. It has 140,000 miles on it. Drives out fine. Motor and trans are smooth and quiet. Shifts well. Bone stock.

Should I let this one go with such high miles on it or what. I will be using it for a 2nd vehicle and will only drive it occasionally. Ideas? ?

Kinda depends on price? Will you be wheeling it?

It's just hard to find the one you really want

I have looked for several months now. I knew I wanted the six cylinder. It's just hard to find one with low mileage and not have to give an arm and leg for it. If you mechanically minded at all you can do any work that comes up. Mine's just a toy so if i have to work on it some then that's fine with me. I buy cars all the time and clean them up and resell them after a time and most of the time I make a little money on them. If you like it buy it!!!

I can't see how a 2000 DD could have much less than 140,000. I worked 15 miles from home for almost 10 years until the last 6 months and I have 149,000. When the wife and I go out we always use her van because it's a whole lot easier to get the kids in and out. It'd take a whole lot more $$$ to get me to part with my 4.0L. I love her!

How long have you been looking for a Jeep? Might want to sit back and keep an eye on prices in your area for different models. I like my 4.0L and swore off ever owning a 4 banger a long time ago. I like being able to get up to speed when entering the freeway without having to cut in front of people and seeing :flipoff: in my rear view. Also, considering I live in a pretty hilly area in MD, I can't imagine getting up some of the hills in a 4 banger when I have to downshift a 4L to maintain speed. Not many parts of CO are all that flat, right?

I bought a 1999 about a year ago, also a 4 cylinder since my budget was $5000 and I got it for that. It had 115,000 on it. I changed all the fluids, replaced the shocks and the tires, and it has been great. It runs very well and my mileage is usually in the 18 -21 range. It has plenty of power off road. For long freeway trips sure, I'd prefer a 6, but if you anticipate downshifts you can keep up with traffic. I put a Bestop sailcloth top on it and the reduction in road noise was worth every penny. I'd buy it again if I had to do it over again.

I'll give $5800 for a 4 banger with 149k a pretty big ouch.

I paid 6k for mine, then immedidiately sold the second pair of wheels and tires for 700, and the snow plow for 1100. So I'm at 42, plus 250 for some u joints and hubs.

219,000 miles now, and she's good as new. Sahara with 4.0, auto, workin A/C, cruise, hard and soft tops. 31 x 10.5's and a 2" body lift.

Thanks for the imput. I have never seen a jeep I did not want so I must be careful not to fall in love with the first tj I see. Had a 1992 YJ and loved it. Been there done that. I want a Wrangler with the coils all around this time around. I rented one in Colorado for trail riding and loved what the coils did for articulation etc etc
I want one of my own now! ! !

Hold out for the 4.0. I bought a new 2000 TJ w/a 4 banger and manual trans. I loved it, but it couldn't get out of it's own way.

I would hold out for a 4.0 also. If it has been well maintained the mileage is almost a none issue . the 4.0's run a long time if u just do the basic things .I had seen a thread on an XJ site where some one asked how many miles do you have on your 4.0 and I was amazed , the replys made you think you were on some sort of Diesel site. I had a 97 4cyl and now have a 99 6cyl both had 35's and I will not have another 4cyl again . My jeep is only used for fishing and uses about a tank of gas per month so its not my DD either but their is no comparison between the two TJs I had
