I was thinking on heading up to Lytle Creek Saturday morning. There is coffee, food and gas just west of the I15 at Sierra Ave, aka Lytle Creek Ave. There are number of fire road trails up there all very easy so this will be just a casual ride just to explore. I've heard it you could go all the way up into some of these canyons. There is a trail going up to Mt Baldy, but there is a gate part way up. I will contact ranger station to get more info. Could end up at Wrightwood for lunch or something like that. Has anyone been up in this area lately?

Lytle Creek has been closed because of fire. I believe there is even a trail close to the 15 but I've seen the gate closed to that as well.

I was up there Tuesday delivering a trailer to Mountain Lakes. Went up to pavement end at shooting area. Road was open. There was a wash out.

Forest Service Mar 1, 2014 Lytle Creek Road 3N06 is washed out above the shooting range. For more information please call the Lytle Creek Ranger Station (909) 382-2851 (closed Tues/Wed).

The fire is 98% contained in the Cucamonga Wilderness.

Well, if you go, let us know if it's open or not. I'd love to cruise back there again sometime.

Talked with rangers. Only 1N34 (SW of Lytle Ck) is closed. 3N33 is always gated at 3N06 (Baldy Rd).
I was thinking of heading up 2N79, south of ranger station, going pass Lost Lake onto 2N89, getting some train pics and doubling back to 3N31 (Sheep Creek Rd). Take 3N33 south back into Lytle creek drainage to road ends and back north to Lone Pine Canyon. Maybe up to Wrightwood from there.

Its a good relaxed run rangers patrol it often so be aware. You can take it up to mt baldy. but at the ski resort you might end up picking a fight with the douche bags that run it/work there they got upset cause, well I just showed up in the jeep when either you hike up it or pay to use the lift.

I'm very familiar with the area up there. I was there two weeks ago and the road after the shooting range is trashed, we could hardly find the road at all, made for a fun bumpy ride at night, definitely recommend it. There's a few small side trails off on the way up right before the ranger station that are fun as well. You can also start on the trail that follows the 15 fwy up into the hills across from cleghorn and comes out by lost lake. Overall nothing challenging but it's fun to explore, I've been there so many times and still find new side roads I haven't been on. If you guys want to plan a run next weekend I will be all in for a go topless day run!

Looks like tomorrow is work on the jeep day and prepare for Mothers Day. Lets wait a week and see how much interest is generated for next Saturday. And I do believe, from other posts, its the official topless day?

Time to find out who is going and what day. This will be mostly a stroll in the park. Stock jeeps, newbies, bring the kids?, all are welcome.
Like I said, would like to watch/photograph a few trains and maybe have lunch in Wrightwood. I could always photograph trains after lunch or bring lunch and watch the trains from a lookout????
We can meet up at the 15 frwy and Sierra around 8 or 9 am, gas up, buy breakfast/coffee/lunch. I kind of planned a route above, but open to suggestions from anyone.

Looks like we're going to roll Sunday morning. Meet up at 3892 Sierra Ave., Fontana 92336, on west side of 15 frwy at 8:30 AM. There is a Shell, Arco, Jack in the Box and McDonalds. Plan to leave at 9:00 AM up Lytle Creek Road to 2N79. Since this is an easy ride might not even have to air down, but you can to say 15-20 psi for a smoother ride.
Like I said before, would like to maybe do lunch in Wrightwood and stop to watch trains. Bring your cameras and telephoto lens if your taking train pics, or any pics for that matter.
Maybe, if there is time, Cleghorn (2N47) up and back, before we part ways.
Oh, and of course, you can still take your tops off, or at least pull em down. :bop:

I can't make it...I have some steering components that need to be installed on the jeep this weekend. Have a great time and let me know how it goes!
