Could be a shift fork that has lost its pads??? or abearing getting ready to go?? Check the fluid level in the trans and t-case and try some more investigating where the noise is. You can remove the shifter boot (PIA) and get a real decent check on trans and t-case noises for sure.
manual transmission problems
I have a 91 yj with 2.5 manual. Drivin to work the transmission started making a banging noise in 1st,2nd,3rd,n 5th!! Gets louder as i go faster. Gears engage fine ,clutch feels same. No noise in 4th gear. Started to hear noise in neautral!!! Baffled cuz gears engage n runs same except for noise. Help please.
