Any opinions on which is better for off road?
I prefer rubber - more 'give' off-road and super easy to replace trailside. I carry a couple of spare rubber stems and a stem tool in my toolbag.

Get the shortest rubber ones you can find, I had some that were 3/4" long that I never had an issue with even when digging through mud hole after mud hole.

With metal you always have the risk of snapping them off on a rock. I would go with the rubber. You can still tear them but in many cases they are just going to bend out of the rocks way as metal won't.

Thanks folks. That is what I've always thought as well. Just got into a minor "debate" with the tire shop guy who wanted to sell me metal ones.

I got rubber ones.:thumb:
