alright, for any of you with a 4cyl, you know how limited the motor is in terms of raw horses. Sure it does fine in four low, but the freeway is a different story. I have 33's on mine, and it won't fight a stiff wind in 5th. My problem is slightly complicated. I don't want to re-gear, I already have 4.11s. (I'm told) But anyways, I also don't want to pour a ton of money into this motor, since I'm hoping to drop in a 350 in the future. I just need some affordable horsepower boosters for it.....especially when I put on A/C which I'm sure will just drag her down more. Throttle body spacers, headers.....what do you guys think?

I run a K&N air filter, Power Aid throttle body spacer, electric fan and a Flow Master muffler.
I can hold 5th gear most of the time.
Still not a speed demon but its better.

I know re gearing would seem like a no-brainer, but I'm thinking when that 350 makes it into the hood compartment with the right tranny on it, my gears now will be perfect for both on and off road. Just a theory. But anyways, yeah...I really think 15-20 horsepower would solve a lot of my complaints. I know its mostly the 4.0 guys that do more engine upgrades, but we that are stuck with four- bangers have to figure out something as well. Just keep me posted. Thanks.

An engine is a big air pump. More air in and more air out equals more power. If you do the K&N and throttle body spacer, don't stop there make sure you do the exhaust upgrades too.

When you drop in the 350 you will have to get rid of these axles all together. They will not hold up to the hp, more so the rear axle than the front. The front will hold for a while depending on driving style.

Trying to get a bolt on hp of 15-20 (dyno hp not seat of the pants) will be difficult.

I would honestly say regear or better yet get a second set of daily driver smaller tires.

I already have a K&N style high flow cone filter. As for the axles on the v8, I don't have grounds to argue cause I honestly don't know. I've heard that the stock axles will hold up for a while under non extreme use ( I'm not gonna put a 400+ horse motor in), but of course I would change those in time too. You guys know how it is. If I had the 15 grand to put into her, it would already all be done. But its one step at a time. But yeah, air flow sounds like the best idea to me.
