Not sure how it happened but the heat shield is completely severed from the underbody and just laying on top of the muffler. It occasionally works its way over to rest on top of the shaft which results in a very annoying sound.

Can anyone help me with a fix/advice? I don't see any bolts or anything sticking out from the floor and it looks like it was ripped off as the holes were torn where the washers were. From what I understand the heat shield is necessary especially if you have carpet, which I do.

Tack weld it in place. That's what the PO did to mine. Or, cut it off and get a smaller muffler.

Have you heard of any experiences where the muffler got hot enough to really affect the carpets? I was wondering if I could just remove it and utilize the heat it gives off to warm the cabin.
