Hi all,

new to the forum and wanted to get the opinions of those in the know about a potential purchase.

used 2021 4 door sport s 80th anniversary edition with 8 spd automatic 850RE transmission. 17k miles. my guess is a 2 year lease return to the dealership.
in addition to the standard equipment, it has customer preferred package 22q which has bigger 18 inch wheels, 8.4 inch premium audio group, technology group, power heated mirrors, power front windows, apple carplay/android auto, remote keyless entry, 7 inch tft color display, leather wrapped steering wheel, body color fender flares, AND additional optional equipment including LED headlamp and fog lamp, safety group, advanced safety group, 3 pc hard top, hard top headliner, black tubular side steps, black fuel filler door.

the price 35,000. original window sticker 47,000. current 2023 similar optioned would be around 52,000.

is this a good deal?

aside from financial point of view, any other advice in purchase of this vehicle would be appreciated.

thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

I‘m pretty sure the 80h Anniversary Edition is a Sahara not a Sport. Sahara includes a few goodies like bigger brakes, nicer interior, added sound deadening, softer shocks, etc.

Sounds like a good price provided it has a clean CarFax.

If you provide a link to the vehicle it’s easier for forum members to take a look and comment.

Good luck.

update:

went to look and test drive the car with mrs.

the car was in the lot but the engine would not start. i hear the weak click but the engine would not turn over. the salesman states that perhaps it's out of battery. although the AC and headlights were coming on. they jump start the car with another car. k, maybe just the battery. we get into the car to test drive it. the car drives fine, but the check engine light is on as well as another light with circle around letter "A" and an "!" next to it. the salesman thinks both of the lights may be because of the battery which is not fully charged and therefore the stop and start function is not working. obviously at this point, i am not willing to sign any papers. i asked them to have their shop evaluate the car and let me know before proceeding with anything.

not as big a deal, but the car was not prepped to be looked at all when we got to the dealership. the car was dirty, the interior not really cleaned (still coffee stains in the cup holders and the steering wheel sticky with sweat and dirt). the gas tank was also basically empty as well. this gave us less than optimum shopping experience. mrs at this point, was less than willing to go ahead with the car at this point and willing to forget the car.

anyways, any advice at this point?

thank you in advance.

Everything you described can be attributed to the batteries needing replacing. Jeep OE batteries are notorious for being of poor quality, and are behind two-thirds of all electrical problems JL owners encounter.

What I suggest you do is:
  1. If you want to make sure that it is just the batteries, nudge the dealer into swapping out the old batteries. The dealer is going to huff and puff about this. The two batteries will cost them between $300-$400, plus 2-3 hours in labor. That is a significant amount of money that has to come out of the deal. Besides, if they hook up the vehicle to their diagnostic tool, “replace the batteries” is NOT going to come up as a fix. It never does. There’s an entire Sticky Thread at the top of the JL Technical Discussion forum you can read about the darn batteries.
  2. If the dealer refuses to swap out the batteries, which I am pretty sure they will, you can be 90% certain that the problems will go away after you swap out the batteries yourself. You are looking at roughly $450 for two aftermarket batteries plus 2-3 hours of your time. I wouldn’t buy the crummy Mopar batteries the dealer sells; they are the same garbage that they use from the factory. But you can use this info to have them lower their price another $500.
Thirty months ago I was having similar electrical issues on my Sahara. I swapped out both batteries and haven’t had any more issues.

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t let the battery issues deter me. The price is good, the miles are low, the 80th Anniversary is a nice package, and the CarFax appears to be clean. Sounds like a good find.

i hope that is all there is. i think i got to change the batteries no matter what. maybe i will make it a condition for purchase and see what the management says. i am buying it for my son, and the last thing i would want is for him to have battery/engine starting problems out on the road.

the salesperson got back to me saying that the car was hooked up to the computer in the shop and showed code "P00FD", battery "B" state of charge performance. he says the technician will try to "recharge" the battery. i am to go back next week to take a second look. i would at that time suggest changing out the two batteries.

thank you.

Keep in mind if the dealer changes the batteries, they will use the exact same brand and model that is failing now. Your son will be back to square one in a few months.

I see what you mean. Bad batteries will only last so long.
1. Which brand batteries do you recommend?
2. I saw a YouTube video by wayalife changing the main and auxiliary batteries. Does not seem too bad but not sure if I am up to it. If I wanted to take the jeep to have someone else do it, would any of the big chain shops like autozone or Midas do? Or should I take it to a local small shop?

I got my batteries at O’Reillys; got their store brand Super Start. They are very good.

I replaced them myself following the Wayalife video you mention. It took me 3 hours but it was easy.

I don’t know if shops will do it. If they do they will want to charge you pretty money.

Might I suggest installing a battery isolator when replacing the batteries.

Battery isolator

It helps to protect the accessory battery from discharge/drain in a dual battery system. Ultimately improving the reliability and life of the batteries.

Even with the crappy factory batteries it would be an improvement.

and also, i have been reading a bit about these batteries in the forum and wanted to know about the option of bypassing the auxillary battery. thoughts?
It’s up to you.

My Jeep has an extended warranty, so I chose not to monkey around with the dual battery system.

Thing is, once you replace the OE batteries, you won’t have any more problems. I am now used to the engine stop-start system. It’s kinda nice when I come to a long traffic light that the engine shuts off while everything else on the Jeep works like a charm. Even in sub freezing temps.

oh. another person with the same trim.

please let me know what your experience has been so far with the vehicle. the good and bad please. also let me know if you have had any battery issues.

thanks.
I love the Jeep. I have not had any issues other than my U Connect didnt work. I had the jeep in a couple times to have the hardware checked out and it turned out to be on SXM's end and had nothing to do with hardware. I would say the one thing that I didnt like was the auto start/stop. I live in a smaller city so my traffic lights dont stay red for long. I bought the start stop eliminator and its been working great. That unit just remembers that I have manually turned it off. I can turn it back on at any time by just hitting the switch. The 2.0L turbo is good on gas and has lots of power. I havent changed wheels or tires and have no plans on doing that. I have no regrets buying the Jeep. I have 17,000 Kms on the jeep now. I have not had any issues yet with the batteries.
