I'm looking for some advice with my 2-dr 2012 Rubicon. The first aftermarket thing I want to replace is the bumper and that awful rubber cover and get a winch installed. I'm stuck between replacing it with a full or stubby bumper--I plan on mostly using my Jeep for off-road and rock-climbing, and cost isn't it a huge factor. Still, I think I'd prefer a full bumper just because of nose on nose Forest Service road ding with a Tacoma that I suffered about 3000 miles into owning the Jeep (both our faults)--I realize I'm a bit gunshy on keeping the wheel-well open after this, so talk me down if I'm an idiot for still preferring a full bumper to a stubby. I've also noticed that some full bumpers don't have light cut-outs--are there decent mods or is there any advice for either creating cut-outs or moving the fog-lights?

Lose the electronic disconnect and install either an anti rock or disconnects.

Don't upgrade the 44. Go straight to a 60. Don't buy 35s off the bat, get 37s as a minimum.

Get a long arm with a stretch kit and some coilovers. 1310 drive shafts.

Run beadlocks.

Haha...well, my budget is set for the next year, then--any suggestions on the bumper, perhaps? I might want a winch before I change out the axles... :p

Winch and Bumpers are not in my field of expertise.

I'd suggest you consider a transmission skid first and an oil pan skid plate second and a evaporation can skid plate or relocation.

Fourth, rock rails. Not Rubicon rails. Sell them.

Skid plates are definitely high on the list. Any advice on rock rails? The sentiment seems to be nonchalant as long as they aren't stock...

Both basic vehicle protection from traffic and a good wench mount. (I'll be driving to and Colorado relatively often before going off-road). I've been eyeing the Olympic Smuggler, but wasn't terrible happy with losing the fog lights like that.

Offroad and rock climbing only? I would defintely look at a stubby. I like the poisonspyder and jcroffroad stuff. I would have loved a stubby, love the look and function(even if I don't need it yet!), but I settled on a JCR midwidth with prerunner bars because ultimately(much to my chagrin) my jeep will actually spend 99% of its time onroad. I will only get to wheel it on the weekends, and then only select weekends at that so ultimately I determined that the protection that the midwidth offered was far more important, but with a midwidth I was getting a little closer to what I would have ultimately wanted.

That's what I was looking for when I bought my bumper. Got the Rockhard 4x4 full width because it gave good protection across the front of the jeep. Had fog light inserts and the winch mount sits down low in it. This does two things, keeps the winch from blocking the radiator (not that big of a deal) and also covers up most of the winch so it is better protected from the elements and such.

The thing is super tough, but the drawback to that is that it is a heavyweight.

Nice! That is the other full-width I was looking at. I guess I know I'm going to spend enough time driving either out of town, or to some place else, that I'm still worried about protecting the wheel-well during that part. It looks like it is the same basic thickness as the Olympic, so I think the weights would be comparable. Did you stick with that light set-up, or do anything else (though, to be fair, lights are lower on the list right now)?

I started out with a full width


And ended up cutting it down to a mid with a year later


Lights haven't even crossed my mind lately. I did upgrade the bulbs in the headlights right after I got the jeep, but that is it. I have had my mind on other parts of the jeep to think about lights much.
