Ok, so my little buddy is ill. My 90 YJ 258 block will be replaced in about a month or so. It only has 108000 on it but it has issues. Took it to numerous engine shops and they can't figure out what the noise is specifically. It rattles under load. They said it may be the timing chain, or a piston ring. It sounds awful and is somewhat embarrassing. It is also running very rough, miss firing. I had tuned up, new plugs, wires, vacuum hoses, distributor cap etc., still sucks. I'm getting about 13 mpg and have to put 93 in because if I don't it knocks. I was also told that I should change my carb when I get the new block, I’m thinking though of getting the fuel injection conversion kit from Quadratec. Got a price estimate for the new block for around $3000 installed, and the conversion kit is around $1169.00 plus installation. Need some feedback on what I’m about to do....

I actually just got the yj in August for $2,500. After getting it, i bought new seats, a new top, a console, new rims, new 30.9 wranglers, got the tranny rebuilt, new clutch. I'm in totally about $7,000 now. Theres no way i'm givin it up. I intend to keep it, i might even be asked to be buried in it :). I can get a block much cheaper but i want to go with a reputable shop with a 36000 mile warranty. The new atk block is about $1795 plus installation. So if try getting a new engine that has fi already, like 4jeepn is suggesting, what year engine do i search for?
