Okay so where talking 4k. Go get thy self a new engine 4.0L figure about $1500-1900(car-part.com) with low miles..more power, has fuel injection already. You will need a new computer/ emmsion stuff.. but It think you will be better in the long run. Not sure which carb you have, but if its the same one as the CJ 258 its the carter...and it has some fuel pick up tubes that get clogged with crap... remove and clean and see if that helps. Or sell the jeep as it is.. take the 4k and buy something newer.

I would put a call into or visit the website of http://www.advanceadapters.com/ they should be able to point you in the correct direction as for the newer engine to trany and what swap will work best and what parts you may need... I would think a 92 or newer should work.
