I bought my jeep begining of November. 91 yj 4.0 5spd. Never owned a jeep. Ive always been a honda guy. Im pretty mechanically inclined so everything will be done by me.

Idk how to post pics here yet but ill do so when i figure it out lol

So far ive driven it to azusa canyon to try and mess around in the mud but didnt make the water crossing and had to get pulled out.

That is basically forcing me to get a lift. Ill be doing a soa conversion. After doing a ton of research i picked up a ford 8.8 out of a explorer with lsd. Has 3.73 gears so ill neeed to change the front gear ratio from 3.07 to 3.73. Since ill be in there i might as well throw in a locker. Thats still to be decided.

Driving home a couple weeks after buying it i heard the fuel pump getting loud. I made it home, dropped the tank and found the rubber gromet had gotten soft and the pump sucked it up. Sending unit didnt work either. I swapped in a pump i had laying around and yanked the sending unit alltogether.

I thought the key switch was broken because it could turn with no key. After stripping down the steer column i found out that there is a key release on these jeeps. (Huge rookie move) I guess the switch is still bad because the key comes out but at least i can lock the switch still.

Since the steering wheel was off i figured might as well yank the dash. Heater doesnt work so instead of fixing it i just removed it since this isnt going to be a daily at all. Cleaned up all the wiring from the previous owner.

Thats about it so far. Going to reinstall the dash and mount some led spot lights. I want to take it on a trail in its stock form then do the lift and add tires.

Future mods.
Swap in 8.8 axle
Swap gear in front axle
Choose a locker
Rims (steel or aluminum)
Tires (35" or 33")
Fab up roll bar
Make new front bumper
Winch
Cherokee solid passenger axle

If you are making this thing into an off road toy I think you consider a different gear option. Maybe to keep cost down, you could find some 4.10 gears from a 4 cyl Jeep for the front and get some 4.10's for the 8.8 as well. Ideally, swap them both to 4.56's. Good luck with your build.

Finding a set of gears just for the front is kind of hard already. With all the other mods im looking at i really just want to get this out on the trails without having it down too long

Still havent figured out how to post pics btw

For pictures, there are a couple ways to do it.

Click on "advanced" down at the bottom. In the new window that comes up click on the paperclip icon and upload from there.

or

They way that I prefer to do it is to copy a link from photobucket. Open your pic in photobucket and copy it as an img. Back here click on the yellow square icon with mountains on it and paste in the box that opens.
