Hello all.

Just dropping a line from North Oshawa, introducing myself to the forum.

I just purchased a 2016 Red Willy's 4 door this June, this is my very first NEW vehicle for myself at 53 years old.

My 20 year old daughter purchased her first new car also, a 2016 Blue Sahara 2 door 1 week later.

Looking forward to a long relationship with our jeeps.

Welcome to WF! You probably already know the place, but if you don't, then you owe it to yourselves to go for a ride down Boundary Road as soon as you can. :)

A ride down Boundry road?

I went down there last week past the LCBO building, but not sure where you are talking about.

I really want to climb something...lol
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Start here. Have fun!

Note that stuff off the road is private property so go there at your own risk. The road itself is good fun on it's own for a beginner though. :)

I wouldn't try it. Used to live in Oshawa until 5 years ago & the DRs keep an eye on the area. Be careful picking your line when straddling the ruts. On 1 of my trips thru there the 1 side became a vertical wall. I had to back up a fair distance & move the truck over to make it thru.

When you get to the east end, you can drop down & take the Sandy Hook Rd out to Hwy 35.

The area that is now the Durham East Cross Forest CA, was a very popular area w/ the truck, ATV & dirt bike communities until the landowner donated to the City of Kawartha Lakes. It's now fenced off :(

When you say not to try it, you're talking about the off-road bits, right? Not the road itself.

Ken, go drive the road. If you haven't been off-road at all, that'll be a fun experience in itself for you and your daughter. It's only barely a road. :)

Thanks Weasel, hopefully I will have time this weekend.
There is also a place call "baldy"??? that I have a friend who frequents.

Firstly, it's worth noting that I'm a complete noob at this too, so I have no idea what you're talking about. :D

That said... I just did a bit of Googling and I'm pretty sure they refer to the Raglan Pits as "baldy" over there. So we're essentially talking about the same place. When you drive along Boundary Road, which is completely legal, you'll know it when you see it. It's a giant sand pit with big hills and stuff on the north side. Very cool. I had a bunch of fun in there without realizing it was private property and completely illegal. :(

I'll bet revrnd can confirm whether I'm right on that.

Actually Baldy (and the 3rd hole) are/were closer to Pontypool. In the 80s we referred to the Raglan Pits as the "tank range". Another spot that I'm sure is off limits is Nightmare Alley. It was a long straight muddy section thru the woods. Definite modded vehicle territory.

When I made the don't try it comment, I was referring to the off road area & not the actual road. Have fun :)

Sorry guys I forgot to comment on here that I did finally go to Boundry road last summer.

It was a lot of fun, but I went right from there to the local u-wash station...man was it muddy that day.

I have to admit, I don't like mud.
I am planning on going back when the ground is frozen solid. I'll take my daughter with me (the one with the Blue Sahara) to let her have the experience as well.

Thanks for the advice, it was fun.

Glad you enjoyed it!!

Think of the mud as part of the fun. :D

Also... join OF4WD and go on one of their Newbie Runs next year. I went in September and had a great time!

Be aware that the Port Perry S/C has a LUP to use the road as a snowmobile trail during the winter.

Hey Weasel, my wife is making me join OF4WD this year and is planning a couple of the newbie runs for us. She is determined to dirty up my jeep this year. 2018 is going to be the year I exercise my jeep.

Ken

PS. On new years day I ran a red light in my daughters jeep and got hit. Not feeling like dad of the year. the jeep is still not back and here it is easter. Last call I got from the repair shop was 2 weeks ago, they were pulling the body off to replace the frame. unreal, since the hit was just behind the back wheel.

Sorry about the crash man! Hope she's good as new and your daughter forgives you!

Post back about the Newbie run! We had a great time, and the weather was miserable the entire day. :)
