Hey all. I recently bought a 1988 Wrangler and I love it, but I have encountered some small issues and was hoping someone might be willing or able to help out. You will have to forgive my ignorance for I am new to the jeep world! I have noticed a vacuum seal leak and could hear it, so I investigated and noticed there was a hosing coming from the PCV valve up front to a connector. That connecter was supposed to be connected to a rubber hose leading to a T connector to the carb and the PCV carb bowl tank? This tank I was told is an emissions carbon tank, which I am not familiar with. The hose coming from the T connector was where the vacuum leak was coming from, so I connected it. After I did that the jeep did not want to start. I replaced some of the hoses and it did run but at a very low idle, so I adjusted the idle and it seemed better, but when I drove it, the jeep started to run rough and sputter on acceleration. I have asked around and some people told me that the carbon canister may need replacing, or at least the filter inside of it. I have also noticed that the air filter is completely drenched in oil, and have been told that the carbon canister may have something to do with it. Again, forgive my ignorance on the subject, I was just hoping someone would have experienced this before and may be able to help me. As of right now, I disconnected the vacuum hose and the jeep runs okay, but I do not want to continue to drive it like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! The jeep itself is in excellent shape. Only 90,000 miles on the motor and the tub is almost immaculate for an 88, no real rust and no holes at all, and the frame is in good shape with no holes, just typical rust, so I am glad I picked it up, I just would like to fix these issues. Thanks all !!
