Hello, new to the forum and soon first time Jeep owner. I'll be picking up a brand new JKU Sport within the next couple of weeks. I'll be putting on a 3" TF lift and 35" Terra grappler tires. My question and main concern is how loud are they. I read many reviews and threads and some say that they are surprisingly quiet and others say that they're a bit noisy. I guess it depends on the person, but if I'm cruising at 70 mph with the soft top on what will be louder the tires or the wind. What if I take the top down, will I hear the hum from the tires? I don't know what to expect and I don't want them to be a conversation breaker. Any input would be helpful.

I have Trail Grapplers. What will you use your Jeep for? They are a great rock crawling tire, but would not be my first choice on a mostly street rig. They are heavy, aggressive tread and strong sidewall.

I agree they are not noisey, but again if you want a mostly street tire - there are better choices.

I've got the nitto trail grapplers and I like them a lot. They are very aggressive looking but are quiet compared to other tire brands with the same kind of tread.

I'm running 35 trail grapplers on a 3.5 lift. I love the aggressive look. They get to humming around 60 and up but nothing crazy.

It will mostly be a street rig but not a daily commuter. I just want that aggressive look. My second choice are either Duratracs or Nitto Exo Grapplers, still good looking but maybe better for my needs. Anyone can compare any of these? I know Exo are fairly new but any input would help.

The DTs are much better choice given your driving habits.

Buy some Terra Grapplers. I've had both Terra and Trails, and while the trails are quieter that most tires of equal aggressiveness, the Terras rid better and are quieter. My top and doors are off 9 months out of the year and I love the Terras

Just bought trail grapplers 35's and I was very impressed with how smooth and quiet they ride. Even with the windows down on the highway they are not loud, a subtle hum at best.

Im trying to decide between 315/70/17 Trail grapplers and Duratracs for the Wife's 15. I want to get her the Duratracs because I know they ride good and do good on wet and snow but she like the looks of the Trail grapplers.

I've had both
Duratracs are overall a good tire and quiet
Trail grapplers are louder but in my option look nicer

37" Trail Grapplers here. I wouldn't want any other tire, or I would have purchased them. I go 85 on the freeway regularly and it's not annoying or too noisy at all. Is there hum? Yep, but it doesn't drown things out.

Normally someone that hasn't had a mud tire before will think the tires are loud.

That is all they have to go on.

These aren't even close to loud, but you will notice them if you don't have a reference to compare them to.

If you but from a Discount Tire Store, you can return them and change to something else if you don't like them.

Ask about the requirements as you don't want any surprises.

I tried a set of MTR's and didn't like them for my use. They swapped them out for the TG and discounted the price as well, no questions.

Just some thoughts for you to consider.

I had 35" Trail Grapplers on my first Jeep. The noise was minimal until about 15,000 miles on them. I hit the first wear bar and that's when I started to notice some hum. I find the stock tires on my current Rubicon to be louder than the Nittos. A great tire, great traction and great ride for a DD.

I have the 305/70/17 Terra Grappler G2 (G2 have just be redesigned and have a treadwear warranty ).

I love them so far. I had them on my last Jeep as well and never had any issues. They are quiet but still have an aggressive tread pattern.
