I have a 2013 JK and the backlight to illuminate the shift settings (P,R,N,D) has gone out. I read several involved fixes and decided to just forget it for awhile. Today I noticed this little door-like object about even with the N for Neutral except to the right of the shift. Its only about a half inch long and a quarter inch wide. (I have a pic of it but have been unable to post using Image Hosting sites.) Can someone please tell me its purpose? I'm praying its some easy fix for the light that's out! Thanks!

Pretty sure that is to over ride the shift lock if the brake switch doesn't work to release it, like if you lose battery power.
