I have been told that you can increase the oil volume and the filtering capability if you switch from the PH16 filter to a PH8a filter. Have any of you tried this? Does it work? I have a 95 yj with the 2.5l engine.
They also mentioned the Mobil 1 M1-301 filter. Is this a better filter?

I run a Fram PH8A on mine - yes it's bigger, and yes it fits (though it definitely shouldn't be any bigger). Wether it does any good for the engine I don't know - but it doesn't cost any extra and it can't hurt.

If you can find an equivalent filter such as the mobil or purolator at your local parts stores go for it - Frams suck (I just wish somebody else would start putting the grip stuff on their filters)
