I think I already know the answer, but Why do I have no oil pressure? :mad: I puller the filler cap to see inside and am getting no oil out of the pushrods. Can I change the oil pump with the motor in the Jeep? Damn, I just remembered, I am going to have to pull my header since it runs under the oil pan. This sucks!!!! Today was the first day I drove it since I painted it. Anybody have a miracle fix or do I need to get to work.

i believe there is a baffle under the filler cap so you might not be able to see does it make any noise at an idle noise like a tapping if not i would check the sending unit to see if it is good or the gauge to see if it just quit it seems kinda odd the oil pump would just stop pumping

The baffle is not there anymore. I have an aftermarket aluminum valve cover. The guage has been reading fummy for a while, wheather it was the guage or the pump acting funny, I don't know. The needle jumped around a lot. Not just the normal movement with RPM, but erratic moving.

sounds like the sending unit or the guage i would change those first of install a mechanical guage first before ripping into the motor

Yeah, boss change out the sending unit first as long as you aren't having any mechanical issues that would lead you to believe that there truly is no oil moving around.

Cheapest way to be sure, pull off the valve cover and start it up. Have a buddy hold the valve cover over the head a bit and you'll see if oil is making it to the valves. Don't rev the engine or you'll splatter oil all over.

The oil pump is usually the last thing to replace when oil pressure is bad. Assuming you see oil at the top end and the oil pressure gauge is reading low consistantly (if you really need to be sure you can replace the oil pressure sender or swap with a buddy) check your main and rod bearings. If the jeep has over 100k they are most likely at fault. If you know how to, check your crank for wear.

My jeep had about 150k on it and the oil pressure ran around 8 to 11. The crank was worn and the bearings were all copper. Replacing the bearings brought it up a bit but really the crank needed reground and new larger bearings installed.

I think it is just the sending unit. I started it up on Saturday and had pressure again. I can see in to the valves pretty good with the valve cover that I have. Maybe I was just expecting more oil. I will probably throw in a new sender and see if my guage reads more consistent. Thanks for the input.
