Big-T (hope you dont mind) brought this up, but I will start the thread, even though I might not be able to make it.

It looks like a couple of people want to do trails around the Ouray / Silverton area over Labor Day, Friday to Monday. For us in ABQ, it is a short 5 hour drive and to some of God's greatest work.

I can make it on Friday and Saturday and will try for Sunday. If I am there, I would be happy to lead people are a few trails.

Ouray / Silverton Labor Day Jeep trip

Labor day is Monday Sept 2nd, the weekend trip is planned for Friday Aug 30th thru Monday Sept 2nd. 4 days in Colorado's San Juan region.

Prepare your self for a life changing Off-Road trip, please leave bad attitudes at home. This outing is family based and is for everyone especially the kids (large and small..:D) The trip will be based out of Ouray CO. most of the Jeep trail heads are very close or right in Ouray which makes it perfect location. Ouray has great places to eat and drink (mico-brew pubs), store's for your supply's etc.

Lodging, anyone attending can stay any where they like , camp etc. I have spoken to Twin Peaks Lodge in Ouray ( No affiliation to TP's in ABQ ..LOL) which is the largest and Imo the one of the nicer hotels/ Lodges to stay at. I plan to base the trip out of Ouray / TP's Lodge.
Ouray Colorado Twin Peaks Lodge & Hot Springs
They will give us a nice grp rate, they can definitely accommodate a large group. They have king rooms, dbl queen, family rooms with bunk beds. We get a family room with the kids and its great. $$$ range about a $100 a night at the grp rate, of course this is subject to change until I reserve a block of rooms. Plan on 3 nights( Fri , Sat, Sun)checking out Monday AM.
Once we have some solid conformations on who is going I will reserve a block of rooms then each person will have to call and secure there room from our group package. Some may want to share larger rooms. When you sign up to attend please specify what kinda room you will want, how many people, pets and or if you are not planning to say with the group at the Lodge. Timing is important if you want a room, respond ASAP. Lodging at TP's Lodge is not required to attend.

Basic trail options are Easy - Moderate - Difficult : We can make trail choises based on our grp. There is a ton of options for us. Everything in the San Juans is amazing. Like of the Iconic trails Bruce mentioned we should plan do some of them. My self I am hoping we run a few of the "Jeep Badge of Honor trails", so we cam make a mark for our NM group.

If you don't have a guide to Colorado's trails FunTreks Guide Books and Electronic Trail Guides - FunTreks Guidebooks for Jeep Trails, 4 Wheel Drive Trails, and back country roads I would recamend getting one off amazon. One of the most complete guides to all the trails with way-points, trail difficulty, etc. and a must for any Off-Roader.

As we get a little further in to this we can fine tune the exact trails tailored to the groups wants and abilities. Anyone can go, no Jeeper is counted out. We will make it work. There are a few basic things everyone will need to bring. First aid kit, fire extinguisher, Water, trail food, hot, cold, wet weather clothing, flash light, etc. Its never a good idea to go Off-roading with out the simple stuff that can save your life. I also highly recamended a CB radio. It will help for general info and communication is always a plus on the trail. At a bare minimum your rig must have 4wd, Lo-range, recovery points and a full size spare.

Well this gives everyone the basics and if this trip is for you, I hope you can attend. We would like to keep it down to 10 Rigs many more than that it gets very time consuming. If we have a major interest we can look into adding more. Stock or built rigs, everyone is good to go.
Starting a list of confirmed and possible attending. Please send me (Big-T) a PM with your info.

I just spoke to the wife, and we're in. We will most likely be bringing our 3 kids and will need a room where they allow dogs. :)
We're in Big-T. (For 2)

Darkfire: why do you have to be unavailable until Aug 17.
Oooh! Checking with Nina if possible.

We usually do Ouray twice a year anyway, so why not this weekend.

One beer at that elevation will mess you up. A beer and a shot, you better be close to camp.

That is the truth, don't drink and wheel just messing around but in all seriousness I actually got altitude sickness (Rocky Mountain High) on Imogene pass the first time I was there.
