ive never read any posts when somebody finds a solution to their problem but ill post mine. I was getting the p0394 code for the cam shaft sensors when I was going on a trip fully loaded going up a steep grade at speed. I changed them both out but was getting the same thing, traction, cel light, half power ect. I changed them both out but still got the problem. a friend of mine chewed me out for letting the dealer change my oil and said to put in mobile one asap. he said the gum up from the penzoil was giving the cam phaser the wrong pressure or reading or something like that.( tech talk I didn't understand) but I did it, loaded up and took the cajon pass like a champ! no codes and the performance after the change was un fn real.:winner:

They changed my Cam Phasers this past April in Yuma Az. Im in Price Utah Area and going up the San Rafael Swell at 6% grade mine popped again. P0394 code with the traction control light on, Had to manually shift down to 2nd to get up the grade. Took it to the Price dealer and as usual they just follow the trouble tree and changed the CP Sensor. As I went up the grade this morning it popped back on again. I have another appointment on Friday and I requested they contact thier service representitive to help figure it out. I also called the number in my manual and asked to get a case manager to help me as well. They are suppose to contact me within 24 hrs. Tick ...Tick...Tick...

Hi. I have a jkur 2014 and I also suffered with check p0394. After verifying that there was no electrical or pcm problem the next step was to change the oil from 5w20 to 5w30 (allowed according to manual). After the change I did not return to check out p0394. good luck.

Hi All, for a while I've had numerous camshaft position sensor issues and P06DD (oil pump issue)

After having oil pump, timing chain, sensors changed and wiring checked I am down to P0394.

I can trigger it at highway speeds, engine warmed up and hot, engine under load, incline.
The CEL comes on and the traction control light, limp home mode (you all know the symptoms)

I am changing the PCM out next, for two reasons:

1. to eliminate this as a problem
2. to put a Daiblosport PCM in

The engine coolant gets to 109c (about 228f)
The outside temperature is over 30c (as hot as 40c) - I live in Sydney
The engine bay is really hot

I am running 5W20 oil

I am wondering if it is oil viscosity related.

I was thinking of having the fans come on earlier (Diablosport say their tuner can do this) to try to keep engine temperature down.

I am hoping that this will keep the viscosity higher.

I am also thinking of changing oil to 5W30.

Any thoughts?

Mine is a 2013, I have had this issue since 2015, The P0394 code is on left side, they replaced cam shaft and phasers on left side and that fixed it for 2 years. It happened again same issue at speed going up incline under load it trips the code. I finally got it back to where we winter and the dealer got Tech help from Jeep. They said it was engine fatigue on the left side and replaced camshaft the phasers and the head again and so far it has been almost another 2 years. Knock on wood. In tracking down this problem the dealers have change pcm, engine harness, timing chain and it now has had three camshafts and two heads replaced.

As luck would have it I poped another code just three weeks ago but for the right side cam sensor. Dealer replaced and I havent had an issuse since. Crossing fingers.

Thanks, that is interesting. We shouldn't accept this as it is a massive design flaw. Normal wear and tear should not cause a potentially dangerous situation (limp mode is dangerous when it cuts in). This is likely a software issue and FCA should fix it.

Hi. In my case finally the problem was in the oil pump solenoid. Issue finally resolved. So I went back to 5w20. The track was given to us by this video

So, the P0394 is still there. Albeit less often but same circumstances
I also get P06DD on some runs under hard acceleration onto the freeway.

There's not much left to change now - I have just changed out oil filter for genuine MOPAR to see if that helps.

Replaced the wiring and connector to camshaft position sensor.

I am waiting for wiring harness to replace the oil pressure sensor wiring.. The po6dd come on every now and then but not under acceleration but at low revs on overrun.

Has anyone come up with a solution for this? bzffr8, were your repairs covered under powertrain?
