Hello all, it's my dad's birthday on the 18th (of July) and I'm 15 years old. Over the summer we have been trying to get our 1966 Jeep CJ started and we replaced all the sparks, coils, air intake, battery etc. And made sure all fuel lines are cleared. but it cranks and cranks but won't kick over. Even with starting fluid doesn't work. It seems like it's not getting a spark even though it's brand new spark plugs. And I'm the first to admit I'm not the best with cars and I'm only a kid. But my dad never has the time to work on it so I want to get it running for him as his birthday present. Before spending all the money I have saved up to bring it in somewhere over the weekend I want to see if any of you guys could help. Any help would be apprieciated! Thanks!

Is there 12v to the coil with the key turned on? Are the points clean and adjusted? Find a friend and take sparkplug out of the motor then put it into the plug wire it came from then lay the plug on a metal surface on the motor (so the metal on the plug is grounded) one of you will crank the motor over and one of you will watch for spark across the spark plug gap. Spark! Good then fuel or compression. Or No spark, then possibly no electricity to coil, bad coil, bad condenser, miss adjusted or bad points. Was the spark plug wet with gas when you took it out to check spark? This much is a good start if none of this works what has been done since the motor last ran?

Cj John makes good points...another idea is to get a volt meter and start at the battery make sure you have power, move down the wires to the ignition switch to the coil, distributed, points, and finally spark plugs. If they are sparking and you have fuel flowing it should start unless your timing or firing order is way out but it shouldn't be if it was running at one time or another
