Not in a jeep but my old toyota 4x4 pickup on 33s sunk to the door handles one afternoon. After pulling a Nissan frontier out I passed back thru the hole he made and I sank. It took 2 F250 diesels pulling at the same time to get me out. I havent been too cocky with the Jeep yet.
Pinion seal started to leak while I was out, didnt know it. I was in a very big pretty deep hole for way too long (too cocky to just get pulled out of use my winch). I was sure Id get out under my own power. I kept backing up and finding a new line. I eventually got out, and as I crawled out there was god awful noises and then a terrible binding in the rear. That D35 was DONE. Pulled the cover off to try and see what was binding, hoped that if some teeth broke and were in the way Id be be able to free it up and limp out. That was not the case.
Long story short, 17 miles out of the woods in FWD going BACKWARDS.
I bought my jeep with a lil car knowledge, mostly motors and a lot of motorcycle knowldge. Ive been learning the Jeep stuff as I go. lol. I have some pics of the inside of the rear some where. Ill dig em up.
This was an easy fix but trail riding one day i snapped a stock tie rod way off the main trail. Took 6 hours before I got somebody to bring another one! Once fixed and heading off the trail I busted a shock just to top off a long day. Here's some pics
I have had a log stuck between my axle and tie rod
I have had a tree stuck between my axle and bumper and bent the fender in half.
I have bent 4 heavy duty tie rods in 4 rides
The picture was the last one i bent, then i upgraded to a real heavy duty tie rod..
I have lost a tire going down the interstate at 70 MPH, lugnuts backed off. Good thing i had drum brakes in the rear, it held the wheel on.
Quite a few years ago, I took my CJ-7 out late at night from Mesa, AZ and headed mostly East. Driving along a dirt road going about 20 mph when the road just disappeared due to a wash out. Jeep fell at good 20 feet and landed upside down in a dry wash. Knocked me out for awhile. I woke up and crawled out of the now destroyed hard top shards, covered in transmission fluid. I climbed out of the wash and looked around. The nearest lights were a couple of miles away. I walked for what seemed like forever. As I got closer to the lights, all I could hear was jet engines. Then I noticed the jet engines were on pylons. It was the Airresearch facililty, surrounded by tall cyclone fencing and topped with barbed wire. I continued around the perimeter until I came upon the guard shack. The guard came out and looked at me and thought I was covered in blood, but then he also could smell the transmission fluid.
Called my buddy in Mesa who picked me up. Went to his place and I got cleaned up (much to his wife's dismay). At first light we came back looking for my CJ. After a few hours we finally found it. We took his Bronco and using his winch, flipped my jeep over. Topped off the fluids and the dang thing started up. It was a long drive back but the looks I got on the way back, priceless.
Banged the jeep up really good but after replacing a fender, the hood, the windshield frame and putting on a soft top, I was back in business, albeit less foolish.
Always wished I had snapped a picture of the jeep, and the rattlers that were right along the sides of the wash I had crawled up and out of that night.
