Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced trouble with their 4WD. I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport, with 4WD on the fly. When I used to take it out of 4WD, it would take a minute, but I would feel if go out of it and hear the difference in how the Jeep ran. This year and a little last year, I noticed when I take it out, it doesn't want to kick out of 4WD. I have to literally pull off to the side of the road or make a sharp turn to get it to go out of 4WD.

I am probably gonna end up taking it to a mechanic, but I was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems or any idea what might be causing it.

dO YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS SHIFTING INTO 4WD OR JUST OUT OF IT? hAVE YOU EVER HAD THE FLUID CHANGED IN YOUR TRANSFERCASE?

I only have problems trying to shift out of it. Honestly, I am not sure about the fluid in the transfer case. My Dad is a frame welder/mechanic and mostly takes care of it for me. I don't know how much he knows about 4WD though. I will definitely ask him about that! Thanks for the suggestion.

I know in mine is you are still on the gas when you shift out of 4wd it wont shift out of it until your off the gas. so can try that, but otherwise good luck

Had a similar problem with mine. Seemed like the hubs weren't coming out. Would get a pulling sensation in the steering wheel and then it would slam out of whatever. It quit when I started using my 4 wheel more often. Just put it in around the farm and drive a little. No problems lately. UR

I could be mistaken...but IMO, if the components are binding up and not disengaging, the LAST thing you want to do to disengage it is make a sharp turn. That's just asking for something expensive to bind up and snap.

Try this...when you disengage 4wd, do so with your foot off the gas (you can be coasting) driving in a straight line...if no disengagement, pull off to the side of the road and then BACK UP about 15 ft. That should release any tension on the drivetrain and let it pop out.
