My 87 YJ i6 just started putting puffs of thick white smoke from around the base of the carb. She is also puddling a decent amount of oil directly under that same spot. General Ideas welcome, how bad is this?
So how much should I expect to cry at repair bill? $0-300 I am sad. 300-$600 I cry, More than $600 I sob.Lots of blow by from valve seals, and possibly valve seats. The pistons are pushing the oil and exhaust back up into the intake. Also means that now you have a vacuum leak if you see it puffing out by the carb gasket.
Thank you, it helps to lessen the blow knowing this before I find out the actual amount..Depends if you need a valve job or not.
If you need valve seats, well.... You'll have to have the seats put in, valves grinded, new valve guides, and seals as well.
Anywhere between 250-$1500 I would guess.
Thanks, I wish I could attach the one minute video I have of it. But alas I have found a mechanic who comes well recommended and will be making arrangements tomorrow.you need to take your jeep to a trusted mechanic for diagnosis. what you are discribing could be as simple as a few bad gaskets. the trouble with internet advice is we can't see what your seeing.
She is an 87, you think I really need to take her to a Jeep dealer? Oh and here is a link to the video of her smoking.I recommend taking it to JEEP.
Also, you can upload your video to Youtube, and link it here.
Only if he is running antifreeze not straight water.also, if it is a coolant leak it should have a sweet smell to it.
