Does the Sunrider on my OEM soft top need to be back before the whole top is put back? I have looked at the manual, and looked at videos online and haven't come up with an answer.

Thanks in Advance

No.... it will not go down correct if you try and the sunrider is open. You need to keep it in the locked position when taking the entire top down

Thank you for clearing that up... Also how much of the top are you supposed to fold up (Sail Panels)?

Zip the windows out and roll them individually.

I never read the directions and I am sure everyone does it their own way that works for them.

This is my method
-remove side windows
-unzip both sides to the top of rear window and roll it up with bar still attached (secure roll on both sides with "custom" velcro ties)
-pull sail panels out and flip/fold them over both corners
-undo windshield clips
-pull lock pins on door surrounds to release top
-pull 1st section down tucking in rolled up rear window roll (still attached to the top) behind the rear sport cage and folding in the top section
-pull next section back folding/tucking in
-Pull in last section doing the same fold n tuck process but being much more careful of plactic portion that clips into door surrounds (if not folded correct the seams that hold those plastic portions to the fabric can start to weaken and tear). Found that out on my old TJ top.
-use the provided straps to secure around the entire top bundle so it stays secure and in place at highway speeds (pics of straps below)

One thing I did notice is that unlike TJ tops, LJ tops are best put up and down with 2 people due to the fact that they really only have 1 attachment point to the sport bar while the TJs have 2 attachents. This makes the frame much less stable and it can kind of twist unless you have a person on each side. It can be done with one person buy you must be very careful that you dont twist up the frame and snap something.

Hope that helps and feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Thanks JP,

This is our first jeep with a soft top (our 1998 and 2010 both have hardtops) just trying to get the idea on how to fold down the Top :). I have one last question: I found a bag full of tethers that are OEM (one looks exactly like the one pictured), the others have different setups and lengths, the bag was sealed and there are about 5-6 tethers in there. Are all these for the soft top or are some for other things?

All for the soft top. I know one has a hook that you use to secure sunrider to the sport bar when you just use the sunrider option. Two are to hold the sail panels to the rear sport bars when you have all the windows out otherwise the sail panels will come loose on the highway and it isnt pretty (trust me). And I also use them as I mentioned to secure the complete top when down. As I said I never read the manual or know of any other uses for them but there very well could be.

Im jealous!! Its snowing here right now and the hard top has been on for at least a month. Now if you want the true experience the next question you need to ask is "how to I get these PITA doors off"!

Naaah... We took the doors off of our 1998, and really liked the feeling..but.. don't like to do it around town. Its 59* here in Socal, and the high for Tomorrow is 63* so we will just bundle up and go for a drive!!!

Thanks Again...

I actually sent a pm to Geoff, our resident Bestop guy asking why they had not created a video specifically for the LJ Sunrider. Ours is a unique situation in that we have a much longer and heavier top than a standar TJ. He explained that because the stock sunrider top for the LJ is only sold through Mopar they had no reason to make it for marketing purposes. My 06 owner's manual has pretty clear instructions and it really is simple to manage once you get the hang of it.

I read the manual and the directions were a little lacking..so I then watched the YouTube Videos and got some clarification but some did it with the sunrider open and some didn't.
