2.5L,, 33"-12.50 bBF Goodrich t/a
Working on the ford 8.8 swap. I want to do a SOA

Its my DD until I ship for the marines.

Q:
--SOA too much for a 2.5l DD?
What ratio? 4.56 or 4.88?

Concerns:

----(I hit the interstate for 5 miles or so every morning)
-----already have some blow by. (oil come out of dipstick when ran hard)

Any and all helps, thanks:)

Soa is fine for dd. Mine is. Fix your motor before you do anything. Also, soa is way more work than you think it is, i promise. I run 4.10 in mine and am happy. 4.56 from 4.10 is not a big difference and you woupd hardly notice. I would go with the 4.88. Especially if you never plan on a motor swap.

SOA lift has nothing to do with the size of the motor, until you plan on filling up the fenderwells with tire.

If i were doing it, and planned on keeping the 2.5L, then i would definately go with the 4.88 gears. Your YJ is stock with 4.10 gears, switching to 4.56 isnt going to be that much of a difference but it would be enough if you never plan on going bigger than the 33" tires. But I'm thinking that once you gain 5.5" of lift from the SOA, you are going to want 35's. Then you might want to even go up to the big gears...5.38's. I have a fellow jeeper that runs a 1946 willys with a 4cyl riding on 35's with 5.38 gears. He has tons of power but is limited to about 60 on the highway.

As far as the blow by is concerned, try running a can of seafoam thru the motor and get it cleaned out. If you are experiencing oil out of the dipstick tube, normally that means that you PCV valve in your valve cover isnt working properly. PCV= positive crankcase ventilation, it has to be working properly in order to stop the oil leaks on other parts of the motor.

I might be wrong, but if I remember correctly you cannot go over 4.88 with an 8.8. And the motor will make a difference. I will be swapping in a 302 myself. One of the biggest reasons why is because of the highway. That extra height in the wind means getting on the gas a lot more. On the trail you are fine though. If you plan on swapping the motor, or the one you have is about to die I would say stick with the 4.10's since it will be a better daily driver than if you go with bigger gears. That is the only reason I am not upgrading my gears, but I also built mine to handle the V8.

Motor swap would be awesome, but log in future if ever. what els is there realy with SOA? High steer..driveshaft and SYE.
