So I keep getting Best Buy gift certificates for different occasions. I now have at least $65 worth. So I thought I'd go and spend them on a new radio. Got there and thought I found one I wanted. It took a sales associate 30 mins just to come over and when he did I asked about wiring harnesses and such. He said "well the wiring harness is $20, the mounting bracket will be $20, and for an '06 Wrangler you need an $18 Antenna adapter." I just said I'm ordering from crutchfield haha.
Anyways, What's this "antenna adapter??? Never heard of needing one before.

and they can't understand why they are getting beat up by internet sales. I would just use the $65 for memory cards of DVDs before I spend it on their crappy radios.

My guess would be that the antenna connector coming out of the radio is different than the stock one and won't plug in without an adapter. I'm not a radio geek so that's just a guess.

Its the same antenna plug, but a stock radio has the plug on the right side (closer to the antenna on the jeep) while most aftermarket ones have it on the other side. This means you need an adapter to extend the wire a few inches so it will reach. Also, an aftermarket will be shorter than stock, creating a need for the extender.

Yea when i put an aftermarket radio in my 99 sport i had to get an antenna adapter because the factory plug is a different size and shape than the hole for it in the new stereo. Not just about reach, they are actually different. But i think i got it at walmart for about 5-8 bucks. The wiring harness was another 8 i believe.

Jeepwayoflife Most of them are still free. I saw a few that were $15 for everything, including extra reading stuff. I'm just not in a hurry to get a new system (saving up for a truck, camaro, or flight school).

I can't advise on the antennae adapter, but I can tell you how to get help at Best Buy pretty quick--look suspicious. I usually lift stuff up they have cabled down and look underneath while looking like I'm watching for security cameras. Works every time. Walmart, too. Don't break any rules....just look like you're going to. They do watch the cameras...usually less than 2-3 minutes to "Can I help you sir?"
